After the tragic murder of our oldest daughter by her husband, I was compelled to do something to help other victims of domestic violence. I have been forced to be an advocate against a horrible crime that I did not know existed. Not wanting my daughter's death to be in vain, I have had a God-driven force to tell our story and hopefully reach the law enforcement agencies to make them realize how horrible domestic violence is, and that they should take domestic violence calls seriously and as a crime, not just as a disturbance. My hope is to reach other victims and to help all communities understand that we can stop domestic violence if we work together. Shortly after our daughter's death, I realized that if I could tell our story and could get it published, I could help other families from going through the horrible senseless pain that our family has endured. Right away, the title came to me Not in Vain. I was not sure what God wanted me to do with it until I started reading my journal, my notes, and listening to my tape recordings of the events. It was at that time I realized that this man not only murdered our daughter; he almost killed my whole family. After years of separation and pain, our family did survive. Everything changed in May of 2004. Our lives changed forever.

Back in 1968 Diana Page was going to graduate from the University of Michigan without much hope for marriage or a career. She didn't have a boyfriend, so a prospective husband was unlikely to materialize before the semester ended, and a bachelor's in political science wasn't going to make her easily employable. The solution? Join the Peace Corps where she could help change the world . . . and possibly meet a guy who shared her values. Thus began Diana's adventures. Her travels as a journalist and diplomat took her down the dangerous roads of Latin American history from the 1960s into the twenty-first century. With excerpts from diaries, letters, and news articles, she weaves together a narrative of war and peace, presidents and peasants, but mostly of ordinary people who teach her about life. She also runs into a few extraordinary people along the way: Fidel Castro, Isabel Peron, Pele, Jorge Luis Borges, and Hilary Clinton among others. Looking for Love in Strange Places: A Memoir for My Stepdaughters is a hopeful, humorous account of what happens when you seize the day -- without too many expectations for the future.

Mary Delany (née Granville, 1700-88) is best known for her cut-paper illustrations of plants - she completed nearly 1,000 of these botanical pictures. Widowed after an unhappy first marriage, she lived in London, attended court, and was a favourite of George III and Queen Charlotte. After being widowed for a second time, and at the age of 74, she began her plant illustrations: failing eyesight caused her to abandon them in 1784. Delany knew many of the leading cultural figures of the eighteenth century, including Handel and Swift. An enthusiastic correspondent, she wrote and received hundreds of letters, which were edited by her great-great-niece, Lady Llanover (1802-96). Published in 1861-2, they tell the life story of this remarkable woman, while also providing a fascinating glimpse into the world of Georgian England. Volume 4 covers a difficult period in her life, 1761-74, during which she was again widowed.
