Inspirational Darts to the Heart

Take a Moment

Take a Moment was created to bring joy and healing to others through words and photos that have continued to be uplifting, inspiring, and meaningful to me during my cancer recovery and healing. My husband, after my surgery eleven years ago, would craft a daily message for me to keep me focused on my healing. Each consisted of a picture, a quote, and a short affirmative summary upon which I started my day. Whether before driving to the office, before traveling, or before starting up my computer from home, he gifted me with his inspiring thoughts. I created binders of all his creations so I could occasionally go through them, several at a time, to feel his love and his positive affirming words. I also thought that someday I would do something with them. They became my inspiration for Take a Moment. Knowing how much I benefited from these daily reflections, I knew that others would too. So if you are feeling overwhelmed, challenged in your personal or professional life, have a tendency towards negative thinking, or just need to reset your balance, let Take a Moment bring you that uplifting, positive nourishment for your mind, body, and spirit. Just take a moment to be inspired, be enlivened, be nourished, be at peace, be happy, be rejuvenated, be in the moment, be grateful, be thankful, be appreciative. With healing love, Karen

One day Ava, Jack, and Austin are summoned to the principal's office. Waiting for them are two police officers who have questions about Lizzie Thompson, a friend who was found dead. The police are investigating the death as a possible murder. Sabatino recounts the events leading up to Lizzie's death from different characters' points-of-view: Jack's, Ava's, Austin's, Officer Smith's, and Nicky Thompson's (Lizzie's younger brother), and others. Gradually, readers learn about their hopes, desires, fears, and secrets. The story builds to a startling revelation about Lizzie's death. In this debut novel, Sabatino has expertly constructed a suspenseful narrative while developing complex, relatable characters.

And then he was sliding down, down, leveling off briefly, then down again, and he couldn’t help but notice that the people he had planned to rule were fleeing now, and that the Nano-T had broken off its engagement with the tiger long enough to snap at them and give chase, and that in its absence the great feline had turned its mighty head to face the bottom of the slide and opened its maw, which was mottled pink and black, and that he was helpless to do anything but continue sliding toward it—until his kicking feet and legs were trapped between its terrible, curved fangs and its central incisors bit mercilessly into his abdomen (which crunched and splattered and was ripped in two as his bowels exploded outward and his heart and lungs and spleen steamed on contact with the air) and blood erupted from his mouth only to gurgle back inside and choke him. And then the darkness engulfed him completely and he felt himself slithering between its throat muscles and down its gullet—into the burning blackness of its stomach, where he saw by a brief and inexplicable light the dead face of the man the cat had eaten earlier in the day, and knew at last that he walked the earth no more.
