Tarot Cards

The earliest known decks of tarot cards created in Italy in the late 15th century were used as a game. The tarotÕs association with fortune telling and gypsies did not come about until the late 1700s. The first decks were hand painted for wealthy families who had the money to commission the decks as well as the time to play with them. After the advent of lithography, the easy replication through printing made tarot decks much more accessible to the everyday man and woman. In todayÕs world, the tarot has numerous uses, most of which have the purpose of encouraging self-knowledge and reflection. The beauty and lyricism of hundreds, and even thousands, of tarot decks illustrated throughout the last 600 years, as well as those currently in circulation and those yet to be designed and published, make them a unique art form. This book celebrates that art form.

The Devil, the Lovers, & Me

Tarot and the Path of Initiation

Tarot and the Path of Initiation

This book came into being from the author’s exasperation at the ignorance of many users of the Thoth tarot deck. They prefer to go by their “intuition” rather than study Crowley’s companion book to the deck, The Book of Thoth. “It’s too dense” they cry. “I’m not interested in these philosophies; I just want to read Tarot.” The above sentence is the greatest insult to Aleister Crowley, the creator of the Thoth deck. For the deck’s purpose was to convey the higher mysteries to the diviner. Crowley intended for the deck never to be sold separately from the Book of Thoth. And so, heart full of elitist snobbery and sense of obligation to Crowley, the author of this book set out to spoon feed this dense material to the masses, without watering down its contents. In the spirit of Crowley who sought to enlighten the world, the author has added his own contribution to Crowley’s legacy, out of duty. It was due to Crowley’s belief in freedom of information, during an era of politics and secrecy, that the author was able to get his own hands on the gem of all spiritual writing, the Book of Thoth.

Luna Blanca's Tarot Book

Luna Blanca's Tarot Book

Both a reference work and a textbook, Luna Blanca's Tarot Book includes card interpretations and instructional chapters. Illustrated with black and white images of all 78 cards from the previously unpublished Tranquil Willows deck, this text compares images from several decks to reveal a range of interpretations for each card. Motherpeace, Crowley's Thoth, Kris Waldherr's Goddess Tarot and Lover's Path, Robin Wood, New Vision, and Rider-Waite-Smith are all discussed here. Each Major Arcana card includes keywords; a general interpretation; Dark Side which may apply to reversed cards; Light Side which suggests an activity; Between the Decks which presents a comparison of the images in several decks; In Spiritual Work which suggests ways to use the card in meditation, prayer, or ritual; Questions to Ask for reflecting on the application of the card; Affirmations for integrating the message of the card; and Snapshot which provides a haikuesque poem encapsulating the feeling of the card. Each Minor Arcana card includes a multi-deck comparison and a general interpretation. Keywords are provided for each number and face card, for example, keywords for the Aces, the Twos, and so forth. A brief discussion of the suits, the court and Tarot history cards is also included. In the instructional chapters, Reading the Cards begins with one-card spreads and builds up to complex spreads. It also includes advice on reading for others and on learning multiple decks. Numerology and Tarot gives instructions for calculating a person's Name, Lifetime, and Year Symbols, and an explanation of how those symbols interact. Tarot for Meditation and Spiritual Intent shows how to explore Tarot cards in meditation and incorporate the cards in prayer and ritual."
