Meinungsführer gelten als Personen, die in politischen Gesprächen die Meinungen ihrer Mitmenschen beeinflussen können. Bis dato wissen wir jedoch nur wenig über die Kommunikation von Meinungsführern und damit darüber, wie sie ihre Gesprächspartner beeinflussen. Um Meinungsführerschaft und damit kommunikative Einflussnahme in politischen Alltagsgesprächen zu untersuchen, führt Sarah Geber in ihrer Dissertationsschrift kommunikationswissenschaftliche und sozialpsychologische sowie -linguistische Erkenntnisse in einem Modell zur Meinungsführerschaft in der politischen Alltagskommunikation zusammen. Zur Überprüfung des Modells wurden Freundschafts- und Bekanntschaftspaare befragt und deren politische Gespräche beobachtet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Meinungsführerschaft ein inhaltlich und sozial relevantes Phänomen politischer Alltagskommunikation ist. Meinungsführerschaft zeigt sich zwar weniger in einer bedeutenden Beeinflussung der Meinung der Gesprächspartner, jedoch in einer argumentativ gestützten und damit deliberativ relevanten Meinungskommunikation. Die soziale Bedeutung des Phänomens manifestiert sich zum einen im Ziel, sich der Rolle des Meinungsführers entsprechend als kompetent und meinungsstark darstellen zu wollen, und zum anderen in der sozialen Anerkennung der Meinungsführerrolle durch den Gesprächspartner. Die Studie schließt eine bedeutsame Forschungslücke der Meinungsführerforschung und gibt einen gesellschaftlich relevanten Einblick in die politische Alltagskommunikation.
