Dazu beauftragten sie einen der bedeutendsten Architekten ihrer Zeit, Andrea Palladio, dessen Einfluss auf die Nachwelt nicht überschätzt werden kann. In dieser Arbeit werden alle wichtigen Aspekte der Villa Barbaro in Maser beschrieben. Zunächst wird der einzigartige historische Hintergrund dargelegt, der nicht nur die Entstehung der Villa Barbaro, sondern zahlreicher weiterer Villen im Veneto begünstigte, die venezianischen Handelskrise. Sie führte dazu, dass die reichen Venezianer sich ihrem Hinterland, der sogenannten Terraferma, zuwandten. Es folgt die Entstehungsgeschichte der Villa Barbaro und die Beschreibung der einzelnen Gebäudeteile. Dabei wird auch auf die Fresken Paolo Veroneses eingegangen, die zu Palladios Prinzipien in einem seltsamen Spannungsverhältnis stehen. Darüber hinaus werden zahlreiche Hintergrundinformationen zum Schaffen Palladios und seinen Architekturprinzipien, wie z.B. seine Rückgriffe auf Vitruv, gegeben.
