Covering the North Sea and Baltic coasts of Germany and Denmark, this guide is a companion to Brian Navin's North Sea Passage Pilot and Cruising Guide to the Netherlands. It is organised on the basis of carefully selected routes which pick up most of the harbours in the area that it covers. The combination of text, plans and photographs provides all the essential details and plans of ports that are covered. This new fourth edition contains extensive revisions that have become necessary since the last edition was published in 2006. Throughout the area changes have occurred, and whilst many are trivial, in some instances there have been substantial harbour works. These are reflected in amendments to the plans and also the large number of new photographs which Brian Navin has taken during recent visits to Germany and Denmark. Over recent years the area has seen an increasing number of visiting yachts from the British Isles, and Cruising Guide to Germany and Denmark is established as the standard companion for these English speaking visitors to this wonderful cruising area.

This pilot from the RCC covers the long and complex coast of Norway, from the Swedish border in the Skagerrak to the Russian border, including the Lofoten and Vesterlen islands, the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and the remote volcanic island of Jan Mayen. Fully illustrated, mainly with the author's photographs, the work is divided into a general introduction to Norway and eight coastal sections, identifying cruising routes and describing 1,000 islands, fjord and mainland harbours and anchorages. The opening chapter includes a section on cruise planning, with detailed information on Norwegian weather and sailing conditions. This second edition contains numerous revisions, additional plans and information on anchorages not included in the first edition. "Any yachtsman even contemplating a visit to this loveliest of cruising areas could be considered negligent if he did not buy this book". - RHR, Cruising One reader commented: "...The author finds it difficult to avoid superlatives when talking about Norwegian scenery. I find it equally difficult to avoid superlatives when talking about this book. I am impressed. Also most Norwegians may learn a lot of facts from this excellent book. This will remain a classic, and will come in new editions in the foreseeable future..."

The Irish Sea is a huge, almost landlocked sea. Around its shores and islands there are no fewer than six countries, provinces or protectorates.Several languages are represented; English, Welsh, Irish, Scots Gaelic and Manx, along with countless accents and dialects. Its waters teem with life; dolphins and porpoises are a common sight; leatherback turtles come here from the Caribbean to feed on the jellyfish and whales are regular visitors. In the air there are gulls, puffins, guillemots and more. The range of challenges and coastlines is astonishing. Tides above five knots are commonplace and yet there are calm, sheltered waters for relaxed wandering. This well established pilot covers both sides of the Irish Sea from Milford Haven to Portpatrick, and Rathlin Island to Carnsore Point. From his base in Liverpool David Rainsbury spent much of 2014 revisiting the coasts he describes. The sailing directions and descriptions, updated for this second edition, cover all the places that provide shelter. At the start of each chapter there are useful coasting notes which deal with some of the more difficult passages and tidal gateways. The harbour text is then clearly organised so that essential information regarding accessibility, tides and shelter always proceed the pilotage notes which are supported by clear full colour plans. For this second edition the harbour plans have been updated and throughout new photos have been added. The text records all changes as well as including a new section on wind farms.Updates are published on the Irish Sea Pilot website.

For more than 80 years The Shell Channel Pilot has been the ultimate authority on English Channel navigation and pilotage. Following the pioneering work of the legendary Adlard Coles, the book was passed to Captain John Coote RN in 1982. In his comparatively short, ten-year tenure, John Coote expanded the coverage from the English coast to include northern France. He also applied a characteristic humour to the shoreside aspect of the text which has been enthusiastically adopted by Tom Cunliffe, the present and third compiler of this unique work. Upgraded and updated regularly, this is the 8th edition published by Imray under Cunliffe¿s hand. `Shell¿ is more than a harbour guide. It also provides a reassuring hand on the shoulder for Channel navigation, with useful passage notes gleaned from the compiler¿s personal experience of more than 40 years running the tides and finding the eddies. His frank remarks regarding harbour and recreational facilities have long been relied upon by sailors of all generations and nationalities. While leading to some enlightening secrets, they have been known to cause landlords whose establishments fall short of the required standard to lose the will to live.Working with harbourmasters and a dedicated group of carefully selected yachtsmen and women, Cunliffe has kept this pilot as up to date as is humanly possible. More than being technically sound, which is to be expected from a Yachtmaster Examiner, the book is also a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This 4th edition has been produced by a team from the Royal Cruising Club and contains substantial changes. Apart from the routine updating of the text and plans ¿ many newly drawn for this edition ¿ and the addition of new photos, there are also some major changes. In particular coverage of Finland has been reorganized, and reflecting the fast pace of change since the last edition, the Baltic States and Poland sections have been improved significantly. The nine countries bordering the Baltic Sea offer an immense variety of cruising grounds, people and cultures. There are thousands of harbours and innumerable anchorages, and it would take an entire bookshelf, to cover them all in detail. The information contained in this book is therefore selective. It has been chosen for its value both at the planning stages - preparing the yacht, choosing the most suitable route, timing and communications etc - and again on arrival, when a general overview of each individual country is followed by specific harbour information. Where detailed cruising information is readily available - effectively Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Finland - only selected harbours are covered, chosen, with a few exceptions, as fulfilling certain key needs. Where cruising information is more limited - Poland, Kaliningrad, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia - many smaller harbours are also featured in detail. In addition to comprehensive suggestions for further reading (and sources in each country from which they may be ordered) more than 200 websites are listed, again chosen for their relevance both at the planning stages and en route. In order to facilitate the latter, as well as for general communication, details of internet access points are included for most major harbours. Beautiful, secluded anchorages, picturesque canals, bustling marinas, dramatic cities - all await those considering a Baltic cruise.
