Part memoir, part study, The Making of a Philosopher is the self–portrait of a deeply intelligent mind as it develops over a life on both sides of the Atlantic. The Making of a Philosopher follows Colin McGinn from his early years in England reading Descartes and Anselm, to his years in the states, first in Los Angeles, then New York. McGinn presents a contemporary academic take on the great philosophical figures of the twentieth century, including Bertrand Russell, Jean–Paul Sartre, and Noam Chomsky, alongside stories of the teachers who informed his ideas and often became friends and mentors, especially the colorful A.J. Ayer at Oxford. McGinn's prose is always elegant and probing; students of contemporary philosophy and the general reader alike will absorb every page.

The Power of Love, Living From Our Heartsis the first in a series of books designed to elevate an individual into a state of awareness. It is a transformational process of our choosing to use our conscious awareness in each moment to come from love instead of fear. The purpose of this book is to assist in remembering the truth of our magnificence. This process occurs by becoming self-realized: The self-realization that we create our reality through our thoughts, words, and actions. When our mental, emotional, and physical bodies align with unlimited love, there is no lack or self-imposed limitations. Everything is possible. The function of this book is to provide spiritual information with effective practical tools. The information demonstrates how to integrate a spiritual life style within a successful current reality. It bridges the gap between religious and non-religious individuals. This book contains seven Universal Truths and several practical tools successfully applied by many clients, family members and other professionals, along with my personal journey of self-discovery. Tremendous wisdom is gained learning from many of life's challenges, such as morbid obesity (weighing at one point 428 lbs.), financial bankruptcy, childrearing as a result of sibling death, and divorce.

The political and religious upheavals of the seventeenth century caused an unprecedented number of people to emigrate, voluntarily or not, from England. Among these exiles were some of the most important authors in the Anglo-American canon. In this 2007 book, Christopher D'Addario explores how early modern authors thought and wrote about the experience of exile in relation both to their lost homeland and to the new communities they created for themselves abroad. He analyses the writings of first-generation New England Puritans, the Royalists in France during the English Civil War, and the 'interior exiles' of John Milton and John Dryden. D'Addario explores the nature of artistic creation from the religious and political margins of early modern England, and in doing so, provides detailed insight into the psychological and material pressures of displacement and a much overdue study of the importance of exile to the development of early modern literature.
