Do these feelings interfere with your normal daily routine, or prevent you from doing things you would normally do? Do you find yourself seeking medical treatment for symptoms related to your panic? If you are prone to panic attacks and constantly worry about when the next attack may come, you may suffer from panic disorder and/or agoraphobia. Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic, Workbook for Primary Care Settings outlines a time-limited treatment for dealing with panic disorder and agoraphobia. If you primarily seek treatment from your family doctor, this workbook will be useful. Based on the principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), the program described can be delivered by your general practitioner or other health or mental health care provider in the primary care setting in up to six sessions. A modified version of the more intensive 12-session program that currently exists, this treatment represents an introduction of the skills and techniques for overcoming panic disorder that you can easily learn and continue on your own. This workbook will teach you the importance of record-keeping and monitoring your progress, as well as breathing techniques and thinking skills to reduce your anxiety. You will learn how to face your fear of physical symptoms and anxiety-inducing situations. Self-assessment tools, homework exercises, and interactive forms allow you to become an active participant in your treatment. Designed to help adults suffering from panic disorder who wish to discontinue anxiety medication, this program is designed for mental health professional treating panic disorder patients wishing to discontinue anxiety medication. The therapist guide addresses collaboration with the prescribingphysician, allows successful medication discontinuation, and provides patients with skills for the medicine-free management of panic disorder over the long term. This workbook is designed to help patients who have difficulties with anxiety and panic to discontinue their benzodiazepine treatment. Benzodiazepines are a class of medications used to treat panic disorders and other anxiety-related conditions. Benzodiazeptines are also known as mildtranquilizers. They are helpful for treating anxiety disorders, such as panic disorders, but patients may have difficulties when they discontinue these medications. Because of these difficulties, special strategies have been developed to help patients complete their medication taper (the gradualreduction of drug use). The best way to discontinue benzodiazepine is to slowly decrease the dose. A slow taper is important because it minimizes symptoms and makes sure that patients discontinue their medication safely. But even with a slow taper of medication, uncomfortable symptoms frequently emerge and many patientsfear the return or worsening of anxiety and panic attacks. Difficulties with benzodiazepine taper are discussed in this workbook as part of a program aimed at maximizing the success of discontinuation and helping the patient remain panic free over the long run. To achieve these goals, thisworkbook provides important information on panic disorder, benzodiazepine treatment, and taper symptoms. It then provides instruction in skills useful for treating the panic disorder and aiding in medication discontinuation.

This 13-session program incorporates new procedures to help clients learn to monitor their anxiety, gain control, and initiate needed change through cognitive restructuring, progressive muscle relaxation, and direct confrontation of unnecessary worry using imagery and In Vivo Experience. Thevideotape helps therapists gain a better understanding of cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder. In this program, clients will learn to control their "out-of-control" worry and anxiety. The program is divided into 13 components or lessons. In each lesson, clients will learn specific skills. The skills will build on each other so that in each new lesson, they will use skills learned inearlier lessons. The types of skills that they will learn include reducing physical tension, controlling excessive worry, and dealing with real problem situations. The program is obviously structured, but within that structure, there is room for individual tailoring, since individual differencesare very important for understanding what will help each client the most. At the end of each lesson, there is an exercise and a self-assessment section that is there for clients to see if they have learned the important information. If not, it is a sign for them to go back over the material again. Most people go over the lesson repeatedly. In addition, specificexercises are outlined at the end of each chapter.
