Jesus was the descendant of sexually exploited women, narrowly survived a child homicide, and grew up to be the world's most prominent defender of children. Jesus reserved his harshest words for those who abused or neglected children and went so far as to say our treatment of children says everything about our view of God. Although the early church took this message to heart and distinguished itself by its treatment of children, this message has been distorted or ignored by many modern Christian leaders. As a result, the church has often failed to protect children from abuse and, in many instances, has contributed to their maltreatment. In this insightful book, Christian theologian and internationally recognized child abuse expert Victor Vieth examines the role of Jesus' life and teachings in reducing child abuse in the New Testament world. Vieth urges Christians to once again take seriously everything Jesus had to say about children. Using the teachings of Jesus as a blueprint, Vieth sets forth a proposal for church reform to prevent many cases of abuse, improve the pastoral care of survivors of abuse, and witness to the world that Christian faith shows itself in service to children. ""Child abuse in its myriad forms--prevalent in contemporary church and society--necessitates that congregations develop and implement proactive policies to protect God's little ones. Victor Vieth makes a compelling and articulate case for grounding the church's response to child abuse on the words and practices of Jesus. This book deserves wide circulation and serious study."" --Craig L. Nessan, Wartburg Theological Seminary ""Victor brings a flood of light to the very dark topic of child abuse. As an expert in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, he is the best person in the world to write this book. His compassion, knowledge, passion, wisdom, hope, and Christ-centered theology that he brings to this topic are vital and urgent."" --Justin S. Holcomb, co-author of God Made All of Me: A Book to Help Children Protect Their Bodies ""This book is sobering and encouraging. It is sobering because Vieth reveals a disconnect between how Jesus valued children and how his church has treated children over the ages. Yet the author does more than call us to repentance. He also encourages us. He demonstrates that our love and care for hurting children is deeply rooted in Jesus' love for children."" --John D. Schuetze, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Victor I. Vieth is a former prosecutor who went on to direct the National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse. He is also the founder of the National Child Protection Training Center, the president of the Academy on Violence and Abuse, and serves on the board of directors of GRACE. His honors include the Pro Humanitate Award from the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare. His degrees include an MA from Wartburg Theological Seminary.

This book is a Christian book where most of the parts of the human body have been mentioned with a little description of what their normal functions in the human body are, and spiritual functions. God gave us his Son because he loved us. That is why he gave us so many gifts through the Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 4:10 tells us that every one of us has been given a gift. We should use these gifts for the benefit of the body of Christ. God thought of the world and gave us his son. To function the way God wanted us to, he gave us tools to use. He did not want to impose these tools on us. It is up to each individual to take up these tools and use them. God made them available to us. The book starts off at looking at 1 Corinthians 12. Then all the chapters that follow relate the various parts of the body to how they would function as parts in the body of Christ. The brain and the nervous system as the head. The Skin as the Protection. The muscles and the skeleton as the cover and shape. The ears as the hearing aid and balancing scale. The nose as the sense of smell. The tongue as the fire.. The throat as the antibiotic. The mouth as the gate. The eyes as the miraculous sight. of the body The heart and circulation as the pump or engine. The respiratory system as the air provider. The reproductive system as the maternity. The urinary system as the filtering and drainage system. The endocrine system as the messenger or trouble-shooter. The blood and the immune system as the carrier and defender of the body of Christ.

This is the extended and annotated edition including * an extensive biographical annotation about the author and his life Calvin produced commentaries on most of the books of the Bible. His commentaries cover the larger part of the Old Testament, and all of the new excepting Second and Third John and the Apocalypse. His commentaries and lectures stand in the front rank of Biblical interpretation. The Commentary On Joshua was the last literary labor of its venerable Author. When he engaged in it, his constitution, which had never been strong, was completely worn out by excessive exertion, and almost every line of it must have been dictated to his amanuensis during momentary intervals of relief from severe bodily pain. On this point we possess authentic documents which leave no room for doubt. Such are the circumstances in which this Commentary was composed, and it is impossible, in reflecting on them, not to admire the indomitable energy which Calvin displayed in proceeding with his task, and in meeting the remonstrance's of those who would have withdrawn him from it, with the heroic exclamation, "Would you that the Lord, when He comes, should find me idle!" A Work written at such a time, and in such a spirit, might justly claim exemption from criticism; but it has no need of indulgence, and can well afford to be judged by its own intrinsic merits. Viewed merely as an intellectual effort, it displays all the excellencies which characterize the other Commentaries of its distinguished Author: viewed in a higher and better light, it is his dying bequest to the Church — a solemn ratification of the whole System of Doctrine which he had so long, so earnestly, and so successfully promulgated.
