This book integrates multiple criteria concepts and methods for problems within the Risk, Reliability and Maintenance (RRM) context. The concepts and foundations related to RRM are considered for this integration with multicriteria approaches. In the book, a general framework for building decision models is presented and this is illustrated in various chapters by discussing many different decision models related to the RRM context. The scope of the book is related to ways of how to integrate Applied Probability and Decision Making. In Applied Probability, this mainly includes: decision analysis and reliability theory, amongst other topics closely related to risk analysis and maintenance. In Decision Making, it includes a broad range of topics in MCDM (Multi-Criteria Decision Making) and MCDA (Multi-Criteria Decision Aiding; also known as Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis). In addition to decision analysis, some of the topics related to Mathematical Programming area are briefly considered, such as multiobjective optimization, since methods related to these topics have been applied to the context of RRM. The book addresses an innovative treatment for the decision making in RRM, thereby improving the integration of fundamental concepts from the areas of both RRM and decision making. This is accomplished by presenting an overview of the literature on decision making in RRM. Some pitfalls of decision models when applying them to RRM in practice are discussed and guidance on overcoming these drawbacks is offered. The procedure enables multicriteria models to be built for the RRM context, including guidance on choosing an appropriate multicriteria method for a particular problem faced in the RRM context. The book also includes many research advances in these topics. Most of the multicriteria decision models that are described are specific applications that have been influenced by this research and the advances in this field. Multicriteria and Multiobjective Models for Risk, Reliability and Maintenance Decision Analysis is implicitly structured in three parts, with 12 chapters. The first part deals with MCDM/A concepts methods and decision processes. The second part presents the main concepts and foundations of RRM. Finally the third part deals with specific decision problems in the RRM context approached with MCDM/A models.

The safe and reliable performance of many systems with which we interact daily has been achieved through the analysis and management of risk. From complex infrastructures to consumer durables, from engineering systems and technologies used in transportation, health, energy, chemical, oil, gas, aerospace, maritime, defence and other sectors, the management of risk during design, manufacture, operation and decommissioning is vital. Methods and models to support risk-informed decision-making are well established but are continually challenged by technology innovations, increasing interdependencies, and changes in societal expectations. Risk, Reliability and Safety contains papers describing innovations in theory and practice contributed to the scientific programme of the European Safety and Reliability conference (ESREL 2016), held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland (25—29 September 2016). Authors include scientists, academics, practitioners, regulators and other key individuals with expertise and experience relevant to specific areas. Papers include domain specific applications as well as general modelling methods. Papers cover evaluation of contemporary solutions, exploration of future challenges, and exposition of concepts, methods and processes. Topics include human factors, occupational health and safety, dynamic and systems reliability modelling, maintenance optimisation, uncertainty analysis, resilience assessment, risk and crisis management.

This book aims to give the readers a background about the reliability and safety engineering methods as well as discuss the importance of physical asset optimization and asset management during the operational phase applied for railway industry. The book starts describing the basic concept of reliability and safety engineering, RAMS and LCC program and process. In addition, the big challenges of the RAMS and LCC program implementation as well as the reliability pitfalls are also listed in the first chapter. The further chapters describe in detail the most importance methods applied in the RAMS and LCC program such as Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Quantitative Accelerated Life Test (QALT), High Accelerated Life Test (HALT), Life Time Data Analysis (LDA), Reliability, Availability, Maintainability Analysis (RAM), Human Reliability Analysis (HRA), Integrated Logistic Support (ILS), risk analysis methods and asset management. In each chapter some case studies are presented to clarify the theoretical concepts. I hope you enjoy it and its enable you to put in practice some of the methods described here in your daily professional activities in railway industry.

Within the last fifty years the performance requirements for technical objects and systems were supplemented with: customer expectations (quality), abilities to prevent the loss of the object properties in operation time (reliability and maintainability), protection against the effects of undesirable events (safety and security) and the ability to restore performance (resilience). The need to adapt the operation of complex systems in such an uncertain and volatile environment has caused the necessity to formulate new and well established achievements associated with modeling, testing and evaluation of these properties. The concept of a complex system applies not only to the technical ones but also the infrastructure of major importance for social life such as transportation and logistics systems, buildings, power systems, water distribution systems or health services. Safety and Reliability: Methodology and Applications contains the proceedings of the 24th European Safety and Reliability Conference (ESREL 2014, Wroclaw, Poland, 14-18 September 2014), and discusses theories and methods and their applications in the areas of risk, safety and reliability. The abstracts book (408 pages) + full paper CD-ROM (2496 pages) will be of interest to researchers and practitioners, academics and engineers working in academic, industrial and governmental sectors.

Authored by two acknowledged leaders in the field of reliability analysis, the original version of this book has become both a classic text within mathematics and engineering departments in universities in Norway and Sweden, and a standard reference in companies throughout Scandinavia. Updated and expanded and available for the first time in English, System Reliability Theory offers a balanced presentation of both theory and practice, making it an ideal introduction to reliability analysis for both industrial statisticians and engineers. Comprehensive in scope, the methods and models the authors describe may be applied to the full range of technical systems - everything from offshore oil platforms and nuclear power plants, to manufacturing systems and public transportation systems - and are equally applicable to complete systems as well as specific subsystems such as fire and gas safety systems and emergency shutdown systems. The first half of the book begins with simple systems and constitutes a comprehensive elementary introduction to reliability theory. Chapters here are devoted to situations in which the stated variables of components and systems are binary and independent. Major topics covered are failure models, qualitative system analysis, component importance, and elementary life data analysis. Following chapters cover more complex situations in which the components and systems may be in a number of different states; renewal theory; dependent failures; life data analysis; accelerated life testing; and Bayesian reliability analysis. In addition to the many worked examples appearing throughout the text, each chapter concludes with a problems section which provides exercises andpresents additional material on applications. An ideal reference for industrial statisticians and engineers working in the field of reliability and safety, System Reliability Theory is also a superior introductory text for graduate students in statistical mathematics and engineering.
