Since the second edition was published in 2008, the Treaty of Lisbon has entered into force (December 1, 2009). Lisbon dramatically changed the constitutional structure of the European Union in many ways. As a result, the authors recast the structure of the book. This mainly involved creating a constitutional "template" (This is an entirely new Chapter 1) that reorganizes and simplifies the Treaty texts into a format that lends itself to a conceptual approach based on how we think of constitutions — government, competences, separation of powers, human rights. Chapter 2 then provides a high-level expansion of the provisions set out in the template, The rest of the book expands in detail on that template, introducing (in our view) a fundamentally new and absolutely unique perspective for students and practitioners alike: what the EU is, in terms of its membership, objectives, institutions and autonomous status (equates to the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the supremacy clause); the components of EU law (constitutional sources and legal acts of the Union); the Union legislature (describing the structure, procedures and powers of each of the relevant institutions); executive powers (describing the structure, procedures and powers of each of the relevant institutions); judicial powers (describing the structure, procedures and powers of each of the relevant institutions); the Union's competences; the limitations on the powers of the Member states to ensure the functioning of the internal market (where the case law is summarized, a necessary inclusion given that the actual treaty provisions on their own scarcely convey the true extent of the TFEU's reach in this regard); the position of the individual in relation to Union law (including fundamental rights and incorporation by reference of the Charter of Fundamental Rights); and relations between the Member States.

The third edition of European Human Rights Law: Text and Materials has been substantially expanded to provide a complete review of the wide range of rights the Convention protects, with new chapters on the right to life, property, discrimination, religious freedom, and education. The book introduces both the process and the substance of this increasingly important area of European law. A broad selection of extracts from essential cases and materials is accompanied by stimulating commentary that guides the reader through the legal rules and court system that have evolved in Strasbourg, how the court works, and how European human rights law is enforced both at the national and international level. European human rights law is also placed into a useful comparative framework alongside human rights cases decided by courts in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere. This third edition has been extensively updated to cover the major developments of recent years, including the reform of the European Court of Human Rights and the expansion of the system to central and eastern Europe.

The Authors, recognized authorities in the subject for over a quarter of a century, provide succinct and authoritative coverage of the major principles in modern American Constitutional Law. This book, a shortened version based on the authors' hornbook-popular with students-and their five volume treatise-popular with judges, practioners and scholars-analyzes the constitutional issues that are studied in law schools today. It discusses the origins of judicial review and federal jurisdiction, federal commerce and spending powers, state powers in light of the dormant commerce clause, the war power, freedom of speech and religion, equal protection, due process, and other important individual rights and liberties. Each chapter begins with a summary of the basic law as it exists today, followed by an analysis of the work of the Court. Judges and law review authors have made the Nowak & Rotunda treatise one of the most cited books in modern years.

Buyer Power in EU Competition Law by Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui presents a comprehensive and cross-sectional discussion of buyer power. This analysis helps to have a better understanding of the legal regulation of buying conducts under EU Competition law. The study focuses on four main research areas: understanding buyer power; analysing the legal treatment given to the exertion of anticompetitive buyer power under EU competition law; exploring theories of harm applicable to buyer power abuse, and ascertaining the welfare standard employed for buyer power cases. The author compares the treatment of such conduct under selected EU Member States and US antitrust law, and contrasts the outcomes with the EU competition law solutions to present a contribution that is novel and valuable due to its approach, depth, and scope.

Cases and statutory law are updated and the material reorganized; conforms with modern law school courses in real property. Chapters open with brief outlines of the law encompassed within, providing an overview of rules in that area. This is followed by a series of factually-based problems designed to generate thoughts about how these rules could be applied in real life situations. Chapters then discuss statements of applicable law and analysis of legal issues raised, plus likely outcomes and current citations of the various laws.
