diFiore's Atlas of Histology with Functional Correlations explains basic histology concepts through realistic, full-color composite and idealized illustrations of histologic structures. Added to the illustrations are actual photomicrographs of similar structures, a popular trademark of the atlas. All structures are directly correlated with the most important and essential functional correlations, allowing students to efficiently learn histologic structures and their major functions at the same time. This new edition features: · New chapter on cell biology accompanied by both drawings and representative photomicrographs of the main stages in the cell cycle during mitosis · Contents reorganized into four parts, progressing logically from Methods and Microscopy through Tissues and Systems diFiore's Atlas of Histology is the perfect resource for medical and graduate histology students.

This atlas' s distinctive, full-color, schematic illustrations have earned lasting renown for superb explanation of basic histology concepts. This edition includes 120 newly improved illustrations; an additional nine micrographs; and a new chapter on cell biology. The atlas presents its hallmark magnification of the minutia of organ and tissue structures to show the functions of microscopic structures and how functions work. Part One explains tissues and their relationship to their systems; Part Two addresses organs in a similar way. A brand-new electronic supplement now allows students to practice identifying structures in micrographs using a "labels on/labels off" toggle, "hotspots" (a mark on an image indicating the presence of a hidden label, ideal for self testing), and a self-test for productive learning. An instructor's version of the image bank is also available, which includes an additional 600 images not found in the book.

diFiore's Atlas of Histology with Functional Correlations, Eleventh Edition, explains basic histology concepts through full-color, schematic illustrations. These illustrations are supplemented by more than 450 digitized full-color online photomicrographs of histological images. Part One explains tissues and their relationship to their systems; Part Two addresses organs in a similar way. Targeting undergraduate, allied health and first and second year medical students, the Eleventh Edition includes new and enhanced images through redrawing and digitization to provide increased detail. This edition also features updated illustrations and information on the functions of cells, tissues, and organs of the body based on advances in research and expert recommendations. The atlas' student-friendly "Functional Correlations" sections help students study structure and function together. Students also benefit from a "realistic" perspective as more than 70 micrographs appear adjacent to color illustrations. A companion Website offers student and instructor versions of diFiore's Interactive Atlas with all of the images from the book.

There is no doubt that if the field of exercise physiology is to make further advancements. The various specialized areas must work together in solving the unique and difficult problems: of understanding how exercise is initiated, maintained and regulated at many functional levels, and what causes us to quit. Exercise is perhaps the most, complex of physiological functions, requiring the coordinated, integrated activation of essentially evey cell, tissue and organ in the body. Such activation is known to take place at all levels - from molecular to systemic. Focusing on important issues addiessed at cellular and systemic levels, this handbook presents state-of-the-art research in the field of exercise physiology. Each chapter serves as a comprehensive resource that will sti mulate and challenge discussion in advanced students, researchers physiologists, medical doctors and practitioners. Authored by respected exercise physiologists from nineteen countries, each chapter has been significantly updated to provide up-to-date coverage of the topics and to offer complete descriptions of the many facets of the most physiological responses from a cellular to an integrative approach within individual body systems in normal and disease states and includes some chapters that are rarely addressed in exercise physiology books, such as the influence of exercise on endothelium, vasomomotor control mechanisms, coagulation, immune function and rheological properties of blood, and their influence on hemodynamics. This book represents the first iteration to provide such a work.

Designed for beginning anatomy students working with prosected human cadavers or models, this manual is built around a series of detailed diagrams suitable for coloring. Each chapter starts with a list of specific objectives for the exercises that follow, and then features a description section where anatomical structures are introduced, defined, described, identified, and then referenced to the accompanying illustrations and figures. Finally, an identification section provides instructions for identifying lists of specific structures, first on models and charts, then on the prepared human cadaver. Each chapter ends with interactive review exercises, new to this edition.

When established four years ago, the scope of this international series in electron microscopy essentially was to provide an opportunity for the pUblication of selected review contributions by specialists in ultrastructural research. Previous volumes presented over the last three years have focused on special topics of present interest in ~'ontemporary biomedicine such as endocrine cells, reproduction, and connective tissues. In these fielCls, in fact, integrated methods of electron microscopy have contributed much to generate new ideas and concepts of general value in both basic and clinical applications. The Ultrastructure of the Digestive Tract basically follows the same guidelines and style of the other books in the series and is an invited collection of selected contributions of authors from various laboratories active in the field of electron microscopy. Therefore, although the various chapters consist of individual topics, they nevertheless should be considered as interrelated contributions of specific subjects in the field. The idea was to have critical reviews of aspects previously published elsewhere by experts in the field who, as a rule, include other relevant information in their articles in order to update and enrich the subject. This book contains fifteen chapters by renowned electron microscopists. Each chapter, according to the policy of the editors, reviews a particular topic in great detail, providing updated information, study methods and results, authors' ideas on future investigative approaches, and possible guidelines for forthcoming work. We hope that this book will be useful to cell biologists, morphologists, physiologists, and pathologists.
