Author and chaplain Thomas Shane tells dozens of stories of what it is like to provide crisis pastoral care to those caught in the grim and shocking realities of life. His book brings a balanced, spirituality-based perspective to the dead centre of heartbreaking human experiences - violent crimes, homicides, natural disasters, auto mobile accidents, suicides, child abuse, and more. The author has worked with law enforcement professionals for 30 years, and his life has been dedicated to the victims and families involved in tragedies, and particularly to the needs of police officers. His words will both encourage and instruct other helping professionals to be better prepared to deal with their own and other's needs during a crisis situation. The book gives readers an insider's view, not theoretical. Dr. Shane candidly reveals his own struggles, doubts and fears, along with the courage, faith and hope that sustains his life and work. He even addresses the complex and challenging task of offering care and spiritual counsel to the perpetrators of crimes. Topics include: General principles for working with police; Helping people deal with guilt and find forgiveness; The real and personal risks in crisis intervention; Death notification; Chaplaincy and terrorism; What is the pastor's authority, and what is not. While many good books reveal the theory of pastoral care and the dynamics of grief work, Crisis Pastoral Care borders on a memoir of life in the midst of disaster. Anyone who deals on a regular basis with the victims of crime and disaster will find this book an invaluable resource.

Being a Christian lawyer is possible, but not easy. Law professor Michael Schutt believes that although there are significant obstacles, Christians belong in the legal profession and should regard it as a sacred calling. The Christian God is, after all, a God concerned with justice, both divine and human. However, the pathway beginning with law school and leading to the daily demands of practice doesn't provide much guidance for pursuing law as a Christian calling. Schutt offers this book as a vital resource for reconceiving the theoretical foundations of law and gives practical guidance for maintaining integrity within a challenging profession. A hopeful and practical book for law students and those serving in the legal profession.

Case Studies in Crisis Communication: International Perspectives on Hits and Misses was created to fill the gap for a much-needed textbook in case studies in crisis communication from international perspectives. The events of September 11, 2001, other major world crises, and the ongoing macroeconomic challenges of financial institutions, justify the need for this book. While existing textbooks on the subject focus on U.S. corporate cases, they may not appeal equally to students and practitioners in other countries, hence the need to analyze cases from the United States and from other world regions. The variety and the international focus of the cases, be they environmental, health or management successes or failures, makes this book more appealing to a wider audience. These cases examine socio-cultural issues associated with responding to a variety of crises.

Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: Distinction, University of Warwick (School of Law), course: International Banking Regulation, language: English, abstract: The recent financial crisis of 2007-2009 (the crisis) has been dramatised as the worst crisis since the great de- pression in the 1930s. Prompt regulatory response was required in order to contain the spread of fear and stop the mistrust with the ultimate goal to restore the confidence into the financial institutions and markets as well as prevent the collapse of the real economy. Financial crises containment can be defined as the enhancement of “... soundness and stability of the banking ...” which is essential to “...ensure legal certainty and to restore confidence in financial markets” Regulators have a whole set of tools to respond to crises, using an existing regime and or implementing a special resolution regime. Latter has a broad span reaching from capital injections to expropriation. Undoubtedly, the measures raise legal questions regarding their raison d’être and liability of those exercising the measures. Moreover, the measures have individual merits and demerits varying in respect of their costs and perspective of the market participants. The purpose of this essay is to analyse these responses. Therefore, different measures will be identified and evaluated in light of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council’s common principles for action 5 and the Commission Communication of State Aid 6 which have been determined as representative guidelines for policy makers in drafting a response regime. It will be concluded that there is no clear cut answer to which are the most successful measures; nevertheless, there is empirical evidence of which are the most favoured responses by regulators. The measures will be in response to an acute crisis, ie the prevention and resolution of a crisis will not be treated in this essay. In addition, the responses will be limited to the European Union. The next chapter is dived in 5 parts exploring mechanisms to contain financial crises. It represents a sequence that has been observed in the recent crisis in Europe. Chapter 3 gives an outlook. The last chapter concludes.
