J. D. Cooper had left no stone unturned when investigating a cold case that hit much too close to home. Or so he'd thought. Thanks to small-town deputy Natalie Becker, new evidence had surfaced that might lead J.D. closer to the truth. But Natalie had a stake in this situation, too, and claimed that joining forces was their best strategy—and their best hope. Problem was, after years of working alone to solve a seemingly unsolvable crime, J.D. found himself distracted by his beautiful partner and her passion for doing the right thing. He'd never met anyone like her and that scared him as much as this unidentifiable madman…until Natalie was made his next target.

The Invention of Suspicion argues that the English justice system underwent changes in the sixteenth century that, because of the system's participatory nature, had a widespread effect and a decisive impact on the development of English Renaissance drama. These changes gradually made evidence evaluation a popular skill: justices of peace and juries were increasingly required to weigh up the probabilities of competing narratives of facts. At precisely the same time, English dramatists were absorbing, from Latin legal rhetoric and from Latin comedy, poetic strategies that enabled them to make their plays more persuasively realistic, more 'probable'. The result of this enormously rich conjunction of popular legal culture and ancient forensic rhetoric was a drama in which dramatis personae habitually gather evidence and 'invent' arguments of suspicion and conjecture about one another, thus prompting us, as readers and audience, to reconstruct this 'evidence' as stories of characters' private histories and inner lives. In this drama, people act in uncertainty, inferring one another's motives and testing evidence for their conclusions. As well as offering an overarching account of how changes in juridical epistemology relate to post-Reformation drama, this book examines comic dramatic writing associated with the Inns of Court in the overlooked decades of the 1560s and 70s. It argues that these experiments constituted an influential sub-genre, assimilating the structures of Roman comedy to current civic and political concerns with the administration of justice. This sub-genre's impact may be seen in Shakespeare's early experiments in revenge tragedy, history play and romance comedy, in Titus Andronicus, Henry VI and The Comedy of Errors, as well as Jonson's Every Man in his Humour, Bartholomew Fair and The Alchemist. The book ranges from mid-fifteenth century drama, through sixteenth century interludes to the drama of the 1590s and 1600s. It draws on recent research by legal historians, and on a range of legal-historical sources in print and manuscript.

"This anthology is a sampler of current work on postwar U.S. women's history, a first attempt to bring new pieces of scholarship into one volume. Rather than posit one overarching history of women or one gender ideology, it relates multiple histories of women and multiple constructions of gender."--Introduction.

``````هملت```` .. مسرحية تراجيدية، تعد أحد روائع الكلاسيكيات العالمية، وهي تجسد مأساة تمزق الروابط الأخوية من أجل الوثوب إلى العروش الملكية، وقد اعتمد شكسبير في هذه المسرحية على عنصر المفارقة التي تجلت في شخصية ````هملت```` بطل هذه المسرحية، فقد جمع فيها بين الشخص المحب لحبيبته ````أوفيليا```` وبين الشخص الثائر لدماء أبيه الذي اغتيل بسيف شقيقه ````كلوديوس```` والد ````أوفيليا````. وقد أقام شكسبير مسرحيته على دعامتين إحداهما نثرية قصصية، والثانية مسرحية حوارية، أيضا اعتمد على العنصر الرمزي، وقد تجلى ذلك في استخدامه لشجرة الصفصاف التي تسلقتها ````أوفيليا````، لتعلق على أحد أغصانها تاجا من الأزهار تخليدا لذكرى أبيها الذي قتله ````هملت````، وقد اختار شكسبير هذه الشجرة خصيصا لدلالتها الحزينة. ``
A shocking true crime story of sex, greed and cold-blooded murder! Veteran true crime author Gary C. King spins a gripping real-life tale of a woman caught in a deadly web of lust and violence...a riveting story of love gone horribly, tragically wrong. Kathryn Ann Martini graduated from Yale with a bright future in the banking business. Young, beautiful and ambitious, she had everything going for her. Until she met Michael David Lissy, the sleazy proprietor of a scuba diving school who was a coke addict that consorted with pimps, prostitutes and other known criminals. Burned out and broke, he had nothing going for him. Then he met Kathryn...a match made in hell. On July 6, 1984, the raped and mutilated body of Kathryn Martini Lissy was found at the Valley River Inn in Eugene, Oregon. Soon afterward, police arrested Michael David Lissy, Kathryn's husband of one year. A few months earlier, Lissy had taken out a large insurance policy on Kathryn's life, naming him as sole beneficiary. Then he hired an underworld assassin to stalk and kill his wife. After one of the most sensational trials in Eugene's history, Lissy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. Notice to readers: This book was previously published as Web of Deceit.
